2007 CEO Social Leadership Award

The Lewis Family Foundation & Grand Circle Corporation

November 6, 2007

Wainwright Bank & Trust Company (NASDAQ: WAIN) Co-founder and Co-chairman, Robert Glassman, received the first annual CEO Social Leadership Award at the Corporate Philanthropy Summit on September 6, 2007.

The award is accompanied by $100,000 underwritten by the Lewis Family Foundation and Grand Circle Corporation with half given to a charity of the recipient’s choice and the other half allocated to a social initiative.  The award is administered with help from the Boston Business Journal and the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship.

“Bob Glassman embodies the principle of creating a double bottom line at a company,” said George Donnelly, editor of the Boston Business Journal and a member of the award selection committee.  “The second bottom line at Wainwright – community involvement and social justice – supports the traditional bottom line.”  Glassman has become well known as a voice for socially progressive issues, often speaking out ahead of others in the business community, the Journal went on to say.

The $50,000 charitable donation will be made to AIDS Action Committee (AAC) of Massachusetts whom Wainwright Bank has been a supporter of for over a decade.  AAC Executive Director Rebecca Haag commended Glassman for his longstanding commitment to supporting nonprofits working to end HIV/AIDS.  “The unique thing about Bob I find that is so compelling is that from the beginning he has understood the link between social justice and HIV/AIDS,” said Haag.

The other half of the award will be used for upgrades and enhancements to Wainwright Bank’s CommunityRoom.net, which provides free websites and the ability to accept online donations to nonprofit clients.  Since its inception in 2000, CommunityRoom.net has generated over $2.5 million in donations for the 200 participating organizations.

Founded in 1987, Wainwright Bank is a leading socially progressive bank headquartered in Boston with assets of nearly $900 million and 11 branches serving neighborhoods throughout Greater Boston.  Over 50 percent of the Bank’s commercial lending portfolio is committed to community development initiatives including affordable housing, homeless shelters, HIV/AIDS services, community health centers, and environmental issues to name a few.  Wainwright’s commitment to supporting social justice issues has been widely recognized including being named one of the 11 Best Lenders to Women in the U.S., one of the Top 10 Best “Green” Banking Firms nationwide and one of the Top 20 Sustainable Stocks in the world.
