Boston - The Greater Boston Business Council (GBBC), New England’s Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, announced its 11th annual Awards for Excellence (AFE) at a gala on Nov. 30.
Awards were provided to organizations that have excelled in the past at providing significant contributions to their gay employees and to the lager gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
The GBBC’s first-ever Leadership Award, the culminating presentation of the evening, went to Wainwright Bank for its consistent and significant contributions.
Bob Glassman, co-founder of Wainwright Bank, received the award saying, "Our bank refers to itself as having two bottom lines. Social justice is one of our bottom lines. We were the first bank to advertise in gay and lesbian newspapers and now we are among the largest 1,000 banks in the country. Some day, all of this will be judged by history, and I know what side of history I want to be on."
