At least one bank, Wainwright Bank & Trust Co. in Boston,
adheres to some green principals, according to the
Massachusetts Bankers Association.
Wainwright was founded in 1987 as a socially responsible commercial
bank. Some of its business focuses on sustainability
issues, including offering a special home-equity loan for solar energy
projects.
The bank also offers subsidies to employees who take public
transportation.
The bank has 11 locations in the Boston area and has $532.4
million
in deposits, the FDIC reports.
Its two newest branches, in Brookline and Newton, are green
buildings that include bamboo flooring, recycled materials, rehabbed
furniture
and sun tubes in the roof, according to Steven Young,
a Wainwright senior vice president.
