WAINWRIGHT BANK & TRUST COMPANY PROVIDES FREE WEBSITES FOR NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
Boston, MA, September 11, 2000 - Wainwright Bank &
Trust Company announced the release of CommunityRoom.net
which provides free hosted websites for nonprofit organizations
who are customers of the bank.
Visitors to CommunityRoom.net can make secure online donations with a major debit or credit card.
Described as "a community of nonprofits," each organization creates and updates their own site, including areas for programs & services, volunteer opportunities, events, history, and custom graphics with only an e-mail connection and a basic knowledge of MS Word.
Other features of the site include a master events calendar, an issues forum providing commentary about current social justice issues, resources for nonprofits, and "Giving 101" which provides tips on how to be a more effective donor. Links to informational sites such as the Associated Grantmakers of Massachusetts and GuideStar are also available.
Visitors can choose to become a member of CommunityRoom.net with no obligation and avoid re-entering their personal information each time they wish to make a donation. In addition, members are provided with a "giving history" which can be printed for tax preparation purposes. Donations can also be made anonymously.
"This represents a merger of technology with our commitment to social justice. It's another way we can support the efforts of community organizations and provide the public with a greater understanding of who we are as a company," said Jan A. Miller, President and CEO of Wainwright Bank.
Participating CommunityRoom.net organizations currently include AIDS Action Committee, Boston Women's Fund, GLAD, Victory Programs and the Pine Street Inn among others. In addition to providing CommunityRoom.net for its current nonprofit clients, the bank anticipates attracting new clients as well.
In 1998 Wainwright Bank received the national Business Ethics Award for its "dedication to social justice inside and out." Recently, the bank was voted Boston's #1 community bank in the 2000 CNC Reader's Choice Awards.
Much of Wainwright's success is attributed to its socially responsible business philosophy of providing value to all its stakeholders, including customers, employees, shareholders and the communities it serves. The bank has committed a substantial percentage of its loan portfolio to local community development projects, small business lending, and mortgages for low- and moderate-income residents.
With Boston branches in the Financial District, Back Bay/South End, and Jamaica Plain, Cambridge branches in Harvard Square, Kendall Square and the Fresh Pond Mall, and the newest branch opening September 25th in Watertown Square, Wainwright is strategically positioned to provide consumer and commercial mortgages, loans and deposit services to individuals, families, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
