Wainwright Bank Named To "Globe 100" List (NASDAQ Symbol "WAIN")

The Boston Globe issues 14th annual listing of the top-performing companies in Massachusetts

Boston, MA, May 21, 2002 - Wainwright Bank & Trust Company has been named to The Boston Globe's 2002 "Globe 100" list of the top-performing companies in Massachusetts. Based on a composite score derived from financial data for the four quarters ending December 31, 2001, Wainwright was ranked 71 out of 299 Massachusetts-based companies whose stock is publicly traded on NASDAQ, NYSE or ASE.

"The inclusion of a company in the Globe 100 reflects an uncommon level of achievement, sought by many, attained by few and prized by employees, shareholders, and the community," said Richard Gilman of The Boston Globe. To be considered, a company must have been public at the end of 2001, not reported a negative common shareholders' equity for two years, and have a long-term debt-to-equity ratio less than 4:1.
