FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wainwright Bank Named To "Globe 100" List (NASDAQ Symbol "WAIN")

The Boston Globe issues 15th annual listing of the top-performing companies in Massachusetts

Boston, MA, May 20, 2003 - Wainwright Bank & Trust Company has been named to The Boston Globe's 2003 "Globe 100" list of the top-performing companies in Massachusetts.

Based on a composite score derived from financial data for the four quarters ending December 31, 2002, Wainwright was ranked 41 out of 262 Massachusetts-based companies whose stock is publicly traded on NASDAQ, NYSE or ASE. In addition, Wainwright Bank was ranked 7th in "Top Revenue Growth" with a 25.5% change in 2002 revenue over 2001, and 12th in stock price gain over a one-year period with a 29.3% increase.

"Inclusion [in the Globe 100] demonstrates your company's exceptional level of quality and performance," said Richard Gilman of The Boston Globe. To be considered, a company must have been public for all of 2002 and reported a positive net income for both 2001 and 2002.

"Considering the challenges of performing well in last year's economy, we are extremely pleased to be included in the Globe 100," said Jan Miller, President and CEO of Wainwright Bank.

As a $550 million commercial bank with headquarters in Boston and nine branches in Boston, Cambridge, Watertown, and Somerville, Wainwright Bank is strategically positioned to provide consumer and commercial mortgages, loans, and deposit services to individuals, families, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
