Wainwright Bank Lends $2.5 Million To The Center for Addictive Behaviors, Inc.
Boston, MA, September 23, 1997 - Through a loan granted
by Wainwright Bank & Trust Company, Danvers, Massachusetts
will be the site of a new , $3.5 million, 30,000 square
foot facility to treat women, men, adolescents and families
whose lives are affected by substance abuse. The $2,550,000
loan to the Center for Addictive Behaviors, Inc. will
allow the consolidation of four programs now located
at three different sites into one new facility which
will be constructed on seven acres of land leased from
the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The balance of project
costs are from a participating loan from Beverly Cooperative
Bank, and a $750,000 Capital Campaign drive. Northeast
Health Systems, Inc. has contributed $375,000 toward
the Capital Campaign. Construction will start immediately
as the new facility conforms with town zoning and has
the approval of all required local and state officials.
The Center for Addictive Behaviors ("CAB")
was founded in 1958 as the North Shore Committee on
Alcoholism and has evolved substantially since that
time in both scope and capability. To address addiction,
the Center for Addictive Behaviors has developed innovative
programs to meet the needs of the diverse population
that it serves. Approximately 70% of admissions to its
programs are from the 27 cities and towns in Northeast
Massachusetts, 20% are from metropolitan Boston, and
the remaining 10% are from other parts of Massachusetts.
The Danvers Town Committee, studying the reuse of Danvers
State Hospital land, specifically recommended the location
of these treatment programs at the new site. The services
that will be provided are known as "diversionary
services"; that is, services that allow a patient
to be treated in an alternative environment to inpatient
hospital care, saving the Commonwealth substantial sums.
Pamela Feingold, Senior Vice President and Community Development Lender, stated that "Wainwright Bank is pleased to be able to provide a major loan to the Center for Addictive Behaviors so that this organization can continue its 40-year tradition of treating and educating those troubled by substance abuse." Wainwright Bank is known for its socially responsible lending and the CAB project in Danvers is another example of the Bank's commitment. ^ back to top ^
