the environment: wainwright in action

our philosophy on the environment

Wainwright Bank is particularly concerned where environmental issues intersect with social justice – for instance, access to open space for inner-city residents and the incidence of toxic pollutants in low-income neighborhoods.

Wainwright Bank's Environmental Policy is a guide to initiatives such as installing energy efficient lighting in our corporate headquarters, using recycled paper (and when feasible, soy-based inks), providing a public transportation subsidy for employees to reduce the use of automobiles, and creating products such as The Green Loan.

In addition, Wainwright seeks opportunities to provide financing for projects including the preservation of wilderness areas and research into the health consequences of environmental toxins.

Silent Spring Institute In addition to providing real estate development financing, Wainwright provides many lines of credit and other types of short-term financing to nonprofit organizations. An example of this is our line of credit to the Silent Spring Institute, which will be used to assist in their breast cancer research. Silent Spring is a nonprofit research institute dedicated to identifying the links between environmental exposure and women’s health.
Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies (CERES) A unique forum for candid dialog between institutional investors, environmental groups and corporate managers, the CERES Principles have been endorsed by industry leaders such as GM, Bank of America, and Sun Oil with a commitment to an environmental ethic that goes beyond simple compliance with the law.
