On behalf of Wainwright Bank, I am pleased to be here today to support and endorse the Equality Principles of the Alliance for Corporate Equality (ACE) which extends equal treatment to all employees regardless of their sexual orientation.

Our philosophy of social justice at Wainwright Bank reflects the values outlined in the Equality Principles. It is our fervent belief that all employees have the right to work in an environment free of prejudice, discrimination, and unfair treatment.

We also believe that employees are more motivated and productive when they can bring their whole selves to the workplace. Wainwright's non-discrimination policies explicitly forbid discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Wainwright Bank lobbied for two years to secure same-sex domestic partner benefits from the Massachusetts Bankers Association Group Health Insurance and was successful in 1994. As a result, all 154 member banks and their 10,000 employees are now eligible for domestic partner benefits.

In 1996 Director Brenda Cole testified before Congress on behalf of Wainwright Bank to endorse the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) which if passed, would guarantee equal opportunity in the workplace regardless of sexual orientation.

Policies like these recognize gay and lesbian employees as equal participants in corporate culture and insure their right to share equally in its rewards.

We encourage more companies to join us in supporting the Principles. Let's make "family" values inclusive and insure they embrace diversity, equality and social justice. Indeed, none of us journeys alone.
